1st International Scientific Conference of the PUEB Institute of Management

Responding to the observed business dilemmas and strategic research directions adopted at Poznań University of Economics and Business (PUEB), the PUEB Institute of Management is taking up the challenge and is organizing a conference on Sustainable Organization Management. Our aim is to integrate researchers around common research topics and combine the ambitions of science with the needs of business through scientific discussion and observation of practical solutions.
To this end, Volkswagen Poznań has been chosen as the strategic partner of the conference. This company is not only the largest employer in the Wielkopolska Region, but it is also an innovative organization dedicated to the principles of sustainable development. The conference will focus on the balance between the economic and social goals – sustainable development management, balance between stabilization and change, management in VUCA times – and between the real world and the virtual world – management in digital reality.

Prof. Lára Jóhannsdóttir
University of Iceland, Iceland
Presentation: Sustainable development, sustainable business models and Industry 4.0
BIO: Lára Jóhannsdóttir is a professor in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Iceland. In her research she focuses on the broadly defined corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR), particularly on the role and responsibility of financial institutions such as insurance companies, as well as responsible investments, environmental and climate issues, and the problems affecting the Arctic. She is involved in the implementation of the interdisciplinary ENR programme (Environment and Natural Resources Graduate Programme), of which she was the director in 2019. Lára is the author of dozens of publications, including a book on CSR in the Arctic, co-authored by Gisele M. Arruda from the University of Aberdeen and published by Routledge. Lára was a Fulbright Arctic Initiative Scholar in 2018–2019. She has been a member of the Global Board Ready Women (GBRW) initiative since 2013, Association of Business Women in Iceland (FKA) since 2012, and since 2002 also of LeiðtogaAuður, a network of female managers in Icelandic companies. She is the first female professor in the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Iceland.

Prof. Tom Bramorski
University of Georgia, USA
Presentation: Process digitalization and strategic business competitiveness
BIO: Tom Bramorski is a professor in the Management Department at the University of Georgia, USA. In his work he focuses on quality management, strategic management, and management of production systems. Tom has published four scientific books and numerous articles in academic journals (e.g. International Journal of Technology Management, Omega, Journal of Business and Economic Research, International Quality of Poland, International Journal of Operations and Production Management). He serves on the editorial boards of several academic journals specialising in operations, supply chains, operational strategies, and quality management, and has consulted with companies and government agencies in the United States and Central Europe in the areas of quality management, operations management, technology management, and privatization in Central Europe. Tom is a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Auditor (CQA), and Certified Quality Manager (CQM). He is a member of many specialized academic and professional organizations, including the American Society for Quality (ASQ) and the American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS).

Elżbieta Kowalczyk, PhD Hab., Assoc. Prof., PUEB
BIO: graduate in psychology and holder of a postdoctoral degree in economic sciences in the discipline of management sciences, professor at the Poznań University of Economics. Combining scientific knowledge and practical experience, she focuses her research inquiries and teaching work around the issues of psychology of organization, management and business. He is a member of the Scientific Society of Organization and Management, the Polish Association of Organization Psychology and the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology.

Przemysław Kuczyński
BIO: Przemysław Kuczyński graduated from Poznan University of Technology and Military University of Technology. Acquired technical knowledge in the field of Mechanical and Power Engineering supported by numerous internships, studies in many leading companies. For many years he has been associated with the Automotive industry where he develops building infrastructure and plant energy. He holds the position of Board Representative for Energy at Volkswagen Poznań. He supervises and implements the requirements of ISO 50 001. Manager of many projects improving the energy efficiency of Volkswagen Poznań plants. Co-author of an energy development strategy for production plants with an emphasis on producing energy from renewable sources. Responsible for implementing new business models for financing energy projects. Expert in working groups dealing with optimisation of energy consumption in Volkswagen production plants all over the world.

Marcin Matuszak
BIO: Marcin Matuszak is a graduate of the Poznań University of Technology, who has been involved in the automotive industry all his professional life. For many years he held the position of Board Representative for Energy at Volkswagen Poznań. Among other things, he was involved in the implementation of the ISO 50 001 standard. Author of many projects improving energy efficiency and reducing energy purchase costs. Co-author of the first in Europe project of recovering heat from technological processes, enabling energy transfer to the municipal heat network. Thanks to this solution, he beat out representatives of several countries for the most innovative energy project implemented at the Volkswagen Group. He was also awarded by the German Energy Agency, among others. Expert in working groups on optimising energy consumption at Volkswagen production sites around the world.

dr Denis Barz
BIO: Denis Barz is head of the IT and Digitization department at Volkswagen Poznań Sp. z o.o., dealing with such topics as information systems in production areas, digitization of administration, and planning and controlling the development of the IT network of the Poznań and Września plants. He graduated in Germany with a degree in Business Management and Production from Georg-August-University in Göttingen, and later earned a PhD in Computer Engineering from Clausthal University of Technology, publishing a thesis entitled „Entwicklung eines Referenzmodells zur Unterstützung von Fahrzeugprojekten im Rahmen von Badge-Engineering-Kooperationen” (Development of a reference model to support vehicle projects within the framework of engineering cooperation related to vehicle twin models). Denis has been with Volkswagen since 2009, during which time he has served as head of IT Production Control, IT Virtual Product Engineering, and as clerk of the Board of Management for Production and Logistics. He is currently leading the cross-company initiative #MissionDigitalization, aimed at increasing the level of digitalization and describing and shaping the future image of Volkswagen Poznań in 2030.

PhD Hab. Grzegorz Wojtkowiak
BIO: Grzegorz Wojtkowiak, employee of the Poznań University of Economics (Department of Enterprise Resource Management). In his research work he takes up the topics of labor performance management, controlling (including personnel controlling) and decision-making processes. He is eager to combine personnel and organizational issues with financial and parametric approaches. He is active in consulting and expert activities.

With four production plants (in Poznań, Swarzędz, and Września), Volkswagen Poznań’s core activity is the production of vans and components. The VW Caddy 5 and VW T6.1 models are manufactured in Poznań. Opened in 2016, Września is the company’s new production plant where versions of the VW Crafter and MAN TGE models, and electric vehicles are produced. The Poznań foundry supplies high-quality aluminium components to the VW factories all over the world, also for electric vehicles such as ID.3 and ID.4. The Responsible Business Forum
The Responsible Business Forum is the longest-established, since 2000, and the largest non-governmental organisation in Poland, which deals with the concept of corporate social responsibility in a comprehensive manner. The Polish Blockchain Association
The Polish Blockchain Association is a non-profit organisation supporting the exchange of knowledge and experience in the field of blockchain technology. Its mission is to connect entrepreneurs, developers, enterprises and technology enthusiasts and to act as a platform enabling cooperation for the entire Polish and global blockchain community. The Polish Blockchain Association brings together blockchain experts and people interested in the technology, representing various backgrounds (IT, law, marketing, sales). It is always willing to share its knowledge with other individuals or businesses that are looking for a way to join the world of blockchain technology.

MYSA FINANCE
The company’s aim is to transfer the real estate market into the virtual world, opening it up to DeFi. The whole art of this transfer lies in accurately mirroring the off-chain market with its actors and mechanisms in the on-chain world. It is not enough to create a replica, the security, transparency and simplicity of the system must also be ensured. The company offers a real estate tokenisation service on the blockchain, with a multidisciplinary team combining expertise in economics, blockchain technology and artificial intelligence.
